Ref Visit of SAMA Wales members to the RFA Sir Galahad in Cardiff

SAMA Wales have organised a small visit to the new Sir Galahad which will be moored in Cardiff Bay on Saturday 13th August. I am writing to you as you have showed interest in this trip.

Unlike last year this visit will be low key with no speeches or presentation. This is because the ship is open that day to the public and unfortunately they are making no special arrangements for us. Captain Nigel Jones apologises for this but as our branch needs a weekend day to visit the ship we are restricted in options.

We will retire after the 2 hour visit to a pub close by before we disband and I hope to invite some of the crew to join us. This visit by veterans and families will be conducted in a sympathetic way and we ask all to fully address any sensitive, difficult or personal questions before deciding to come.

We only envisage about 10—15 veterans and family members to come along, even though we have no restrictions on numbers. If you and any guests wish to be a part of this group please let me know ASAP.

We will only keep in contact with those members who will be going. If you have any questions about this trip or can recommend other interested parties please don’t hesitate to contact me.
