Communications.
· Safety and control. 249 Sqn (HQ) of 157 RLC (Vol) and Brecon ACF will provide secure radio communications as safety and act as event control. Brecon ACF will also man the route at different points to assist us if needed.
· PMR Radios. Walkers and supporters are invited to bring along PMR radios and two channels will be advertised on the day. One channel as the organisers professional event control (no messing about) and the second being a channel where walkers can use to chat unofficially and openly.
Safety.
· We have various safety teams in place. Paramedics and trained mountain walkers will be at hand to deal with any eventuality.
· Brecon Mountain Rescue Team will also be present in the car park with their vehicles to respond to any immediate emergency, they will also put on show and demonstrate equipment to us and the public.
We’ve included these teams mainly to cover and expand the event and NOT in any way in anticipation of any major disaster!
Base Camp.
· Car Parking. Due to the enormous response to this event and that this car park is a very busy place on weekends we’ve consulted with the local police, who will attend, and have asked 249 Sqn to police car parking. This will entail, as you’ll see when you approach the area, men in green directing you to park on the verges of the A470. Please follow their directions.
· Any members who may have grounds, due to excessive equipment, to park very close to the event due to being involved with the organising must contact me to obtain the relevant car pass to gain access to the car park.
· Refreshments Tent. We have a refreshment tent which will serve, throughout the day, tea & coffee, biscuits, cakes, hot dogs and other . This will be free of any charge to walkers and supporters. Tea & Coffee will be served by ladies of Libanus Women's Institute, for which we are very grateful.
· Setting Off and Returning. As you set off on your walk you’ll be guided through an army tent where we ask that you check out. Here you’ll be checked out by members of 249 Sqn and given a card which contains several points of information and also is the ticket for your T/Shirt & Certificate. Please obey these strict rules as we’ll also need you to check back in again so as to satisfy us that all walkers have returned from Pen y Fan.
Fundraising and Cash.
· If possible can you bring any funds you have raised to date to the event. We will register your contribution and also take a record of your projected total effort.
· If any cheques are being sent then please can I ask that they be made payable to ‘SAMA Wales’.
· Due to the fact that this event has grown beyond our wildest dreams it will cost a fair bit to execute. Can I ask that if you are in a position to pay some money in advance to our branch, you can greatly assist us by doing so? All advance payments are registered with us under your name.
Assistance from you.
· We encourage you to contact your local newspapers in order to publicise this event. I have a press release which is available to you to adapt to your individual needs. Please phone me for a chat reference this. If you require photo’s of the rock or monument to assist you in any way please let me know.
· You may be in a position to help us gather ‘article donation's’ a list of articles such as coffee, sausages etc is available and why should we buy these if we can get them donated by shops, firms or companies.
Finally.
We’d like to thank you for your assistance in this project. We’ll put on the best show possible and this sponsored walk is by far the largest gathering at a SAMA (82) event, projected figures including supporters could be over 300. Please try and go that extra mile in gaining as much sponsorship as possible and;
TOGETHER WE’LL MAKE THAT DIFFERENCE!
