South Atlantic Medal Association 82 Wales Branch
I am the Secretary of the Wales Branch of the South Atlantic Medal Association. An organisation representing Veterans and Families of the Falkland Islands Conflict of 1982.
For your information I would like to bring to your attention the following project?
2007 sees the 25th anniversary of the war, and to mark this auspicious occasion we hope to have built a Welsh National Monument dedicated to the sons of Wales, who paid the ultimate price in restoring democracy to the Falkland Islands and its people. Already a rock weighing over 5 tons, a gift from the people of the Falklands, has travelled 8’500 miles to be incorporated in to the Monument.
Wales, as you know, suffered greatly and we as a branch deal with this aftermath on a regular basis. Maybe now is the time to honour our dead in Wales. I fully believe that this project would not only have all party consent but the support of the nation.
In 2007 we hope to replicate the sense of pride and euphoria we witnessed on our return to Wales in 1982. Our friends in the Media are very interested about our proposed venture and we will endeavour to work towards maximum coverage.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and please contact me if you require further information or wished to be kept informed?
