On Sunday 12th February members from 157 Logistic Support Regiment RLC (V) delivered a rock weighing more than 5 tons to SAMA Wales in Brecon. a gift from the Falklands people to the Veterans in Wales. Curly first saw the rock on the side of Mt Harriet last March and went about arranging it to come to Wales. WOI Brian Jones, the Garrison Sergeant Major of the British Forces on the Islands moved heaven and earth (literally) to remove it to Mare Harbour and onto a ship bound for the UK. It arrived in Marchwood, the Military Port near Southampton, in early January.

SAMA Wales intend for it to be part of the Welsh National Monument to the Conflict and to the men who did not return. There was great anticipation with the 60 veterans and supporters who gathered along with the Welsh media last Sunday when at exactly 14:30 hrs the convoy carrying the prized rock came into view. Many Veterans had travelled from all over the UK to witness this special delivery and, as if on queue, a cheer erupted as many realised what an achievement Brian and 157 Reg had undertaken.

Everyone then retired to watch Wales beat Scotland (sorry had to get that one in) with refreshments and thank you speeches at Curly's.

The rock is now laid up near Brecon in readiness for the construction of the monument which we hope to be in Cardiff in time for the 25 anniversary of the Conflict in 2007. If anyone is passing please ring me, Curly, on 01874 625125 if you want to pop along to view it.

More news will follow about the details and fundraising strategy for the monument. We can not thank Brian and 157 Reg enough for this fantastic gift.
